MATH 1830:  COLLEGE ALGEBRA II

PREREQUISITES:  MATH 1110 (old 1010)

CONTENT / CATALOGUE DISCRIPTION:
          
Topics include system of equations and inequalities, matrices and determinants, discrete mathematics and mathematics of finance.

GOALS and COMPETENCIES:
           The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of fundamentals of algebra and its applications in various areas of science.  The student is 
           expected to gain mathematical skills in solving systems of linear equations and inequalities, as well as questions of probability and finance.

TEXT and COVERAGE:
         Gustafson/frisk, College Algebra, 7th Ed.
         Chapters 7, 9 and 10 (A list of recommended problems will be given first day of classes)

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:  Lecture/Discussion

EXAMINATION DATES: 
         Departmental Final Examination.  The Final will be based on the course common competencies and constitute 30% of the grade;
         No hand calculators, formula sheets, etc. may be used on the Final.  (Date/Place to be announced)

GRADING POLICY:  
         A
: (90 –100) B: (80 – 89) C: (70 – 79) D: (60 – 69) F: (59 – Below) 
         Final Grade determination:   50%:  Chapter Tests Average
                                               30%:  Final Examination
                                               20%:  Quizzes, Homework, Attendance...etc

REMARKS:     
        All quizzes will be given without any previous NOTICE
